5 WAYS YOGA CAN KEEP YOU HEALTHIER

Shutterstock

Yoga Trends to Try

Yoga has been an ever-evolving practice since it was brought to the West. While the essential poses stay the same, yoga teachers nuance their classes with innovative props, live music, eclectic groups, and exotic locations where yoga is made available. Here’s what you can expect to see in yoga studios this year based on trends we observed at the latest Yoga Expo in Los Angeles, CA.SEE ALSO:  Yoga Poses for Weight Loss

Acro Partner Yoga

Partner yoga, or acrobatic yoga as it’s known, is a trend that is still catching fire. Yogi duos and fit couples are testing their flexibility, body/mind connection, and communication with this mid-air flow. Every level offers a challenging workout since most poses call for total body balance and core strength and it’s a great way to spend active, quality time with a loved one. Acroyoga.org allows you to search for acrobatic yoga classes, events, and festivals in your area.

Yoga Retreat Vacation

Worried about dropping weight on your vacation? Yogis are doubling up their passion for fitness with their need for relaxation by taking yoga retreats in exotic vacation spots like Miami (like the Carillon Miami Wellness Resort pictured above), Hawaii (consider the Kalani Retreat Center), Mexico (the Amansala Eco-Chic resort), and Bali (and the COMO Shambhala). Yoga festivals and teacher trainings make for a great holiday for the working yogi or lifter who wants to keep in shape stress-free on days off.SEE ALSO: The Most Relaxing Spas in Vegas

Live Music Soul Flow

Focus is everything when it comes to training, and the yoga world has embraced live music as a way of getting people into the studio and it’s keeping them. Just like a great playlist can boost your gym routine, live music in yoga adds to the intensity and energy of the activity helping yogis stay centered and committed to their practice.

Mobile Yoga

Now there’s a way to keep up your yoga practice hours despite schedule conflicts and commutes. A variety of yoga apps help you practice from the comfort of home. Sites like Easypose.com brings yoga teachers from the local community right to your home or office for a personalized one-on-one flow at a competitive price. The app even allow users to search for teachers based on rating and zip code, making it easier for local teachers and students to link up. Yoga studio by Gaiam is another popular app with a variety of workouts depending on your level and time constraints. Free yoga apps to consider include 5-Minute Yoga and Daily Yoga.

Yoga Therapy

Perhaps one of the most interesting yoga trends yet is the fusion of fitness and wellness as one cohesive program for overall wellbeing. Organizations and recovery programs such as The Midnight Mission in Los Angeles are realizing the power of yoga for healing, making it possible for participants of various 12-step program, cancer treatments, or even anger management as a way of coping with stress and pain. Some teachers even incorporate aroma therapeutic blends to add personal pizazz to their brand.

Specialized Mats

New mat materials, technologies, and designs are honing in on the performance angle of yoga to bring out the best in every participant. Even though yoga is not a competitive activity, CNTRD’s new mat (available in early 2017) with grid lines enables yogis to better gauge their flexibility and consistency.
