4 Combo Practices for Injury Prevention and Recovery

One-Stop Healing Shop

There is a new paradigm in the health and fitness world where custom is king. Research in diet, exercise, and physical therapy is steadily debunking the idea that one size fits all. According to Dr. Chris Vincent, CEO and co-founder of Altus Sports Institute in Santa Monica, California, a growing number of rehab facilities are staying ahead of the game with an all-inclusive, one-stop-shop for all mind-body needs. There’s a reason a combination of treatments works best for injury prevention and recovery.SEE ALSO: 5 Recovery Methods to Be PracticingClick through to learn the amazing benefits different groupings of treatment can offer.

When to Shut It Down: 4 Top Tips for a Successful Reset

Myofascial Release and Chiropractic

Dr. Vincent recommends a combination of chiropractic manipulative therapy and myofascial release to guide the body back into its ideal state of balance and ease. Both therapies are helpful, but in combination the effectiveness increases dramatically since the spine is more likely to stay aligned when muscle tension around it is released and doesn’t pull it back out of place.SEE ALSO: Foam Roll to Relieve Muscle Tension

Massage and Aromatherapy

Deep tissue massage in tandem with aromatherapy allows the mind to let go of stress, which allows the body to find its harmony. Constantly pounding the body and joints can be taxing and tends to create wear and tear over time if restorative therapies like muscular tension release and revitalizing aromatherapy aren’t given priority.SEE ALSO: 8 Best Supps to Aid Muscles and Joints

Blood Testing and Nutrition

Mainstream diets come and go with endless health gurus claiming to know the best new way to get ripped, get lean, and get fit fast. But at the end of the day, each body is unique and has a unique nutritional profile that can only be addressed through a thorough blood analysis.SEE ALSO: The 10 Commandments of Bodybuilding NutritionThis can be done at your doctor’s office to see what minerals and nutrients are deficient in the body, or you can seek out the knowledge of experts like Dr. Vincent who offer in-house blood tests with a follow-up assessment to determine the best diet for your lifestyle. There’s no need to dabble with nutrition trends when there’s a way to see exactly what your body needs.

Personal Training and Muscle Balancing

There are many unique methods for assessing the body’s strengths and weaknesses. Dr. Vincent says the most productive way to get results is to combine muscle balancing with strength training, so that muscle groups are developed in support of each other. If the chest is more developed than the shoulder or back muscles, for example, you will get a less than optimal push and pull of the upper body that can lead to injury. Dr. Vincent’s approach urges an in-depth systematic body movement assessment prior to any correctional PT so his clients can reach what he calls their “optimal baseline” for performance.SEE ALSO: 9 Tough Questions to Ask a Trainer Before You Sign Up

The 5 Training Certification Every Weightlifter Should Know

The Ultimate Goal

The ultimate goal of combining many therapies into one treatment method is for athletes to perform at their best over the span of a long career, healthy and injury free. Make sure when seeing your personal trainer, nutritionist, and doctor that they’re informed and on the same page when it comes to dialing in your strength training, nutrition, sleep, and muscular balance.
