The Basics

Keeping fit and staying motivated as the holiday season approaches can be quite a challenge, especially when traveling to see loved ones. Up-and-coming superstar Billie Kay moved away from her family and friends in Sydney to pursue the bright lights of WWE. This December, Kay returns to Australia for a series of NXT shows. This buff brunette has learned a lot about keeping her nutrition and training in check while she’s on the move, and let Muscle & Fitness Hers in on some of her healthy travel rules to live by:SEE ALSO: Road Warrior Fitness with WWE’s Emma

Don’t Lose Track of What You’re Eating

Traveling is often a stressful affair, and it can be easy to lose control of your calorie intake. Make sure you don’t go off the road with your diet.”I find it easy to track my nutrition” says Billie. “I use the MyFitnessPal app because I think it’s the most precise way to track your food and calories. It makes it so much easier when traveling.” She says that when she’s stuck at airports, she scans everything she eats into the app.SEE ALSO: The Best Foods for Flat Abs

Eat For Fuel

The flashing fast food signs in airports and at rest stops may tempt you into a short term fix, but the wrong nutritional choices could leave you crashing in no time, putting you in search of the next nutritional disaster. Billie emphasizes that making better decisions at mealtimes will sustain you for longer, meaning you will be less tempted to cave in and eat that bag of chips or bar of candy.”Feel your body and eat the right foods that will fuel you with energy for the rest of the day while keeping you healthy” says Billie.SEE ALSO: Muscle & Fitness’ Fast Food Survival Guide

Make Smart Choices in Tough Situations

Sometimes even the most committed athlete finds that healthy choices are limited. The bad options often outweigh the good ones on the road but with a bit of careful navigation, it is possible to stick to your goals.Wherever you are, you should be able to find staple clean eating foods like fruits, salad, and even hard boiled eggs, Billie suggests.

Prepare Your Own Meals

If you want to take the guessing game out of eating on the run, you can determine what your next meal will be if you prepare it in advance. Short on time? Follow Billie’s advice and make it simple.”No matter where I go, I always take a pack with me that contains protein powder or a protein bar, nuts, and tuna… for those times when you just can’t find anything” says Billie. An alternative to preparing your own healthy meals is to buy them premade. Often, they can be delivered to your door and you can design your own dish according to the macros you want.”I use a few companies for pre-prepared meals, like ICON Meals, Lean Meals, and FlexPro Meals. I find it easy to have these in my freezer and pull them out when I need them,” says Billie.

Stay Consistent With Training

The key to success with any training and eating plan is to stay consistent, no matter what challenges you face along the way.”Every time I step into the gym, I give it my all,” says Billie.  “I want to beat what I did yesterday, sweat a little more sweat, and work harder because it all adds up. It sounds easy to say, but you will definitely see results.”
