MF: So tell us a bit about this partnership with AXE to promote water conservation.
NR: I’m working on this Axe Showerpooling campaign, and basically, the simple message is that there are things you can do to make a difference: showering for less than five minutes a day, showering with another person, and using low-flow showerheads. But more importantly, I think the bigger message behind this is that—even though saving the planet can sound like a really overwhelming thought—there are effortless ways that you can contribute. It can become second nature—all it takes is a little education.

MF: So obviously the showerpooling idea sticks out….
NR: I mean, if it’s available to you that’s awesome. I happen to be married, so it’s really easy and convenient. I guess we were showerpooling before we even knew what it was!
MF: But a lot of guys are too insecure to suggest it, even if they are dating the person. What would you say to them?
NR: Aw, that’s funny. You mostly hear about women with those insecurities, so it’s interesting to flip that. I grew up with such encouraging people around me and nobody was overly body-conscious in my family, so I think I avoided a lot of those issues. I mean, I still have very normal insecurities, but I’ve always been made to feel like a body is a body and it’s not supposed to look like what you see in the media. If I told you how many times guys on set get spray muscles…men need to realize that they don’t need to live up to what they think they need to live up to!

MF: What’s your favorite body part on a man and why?
NR: I like hands. I think that’s one of the things I loved about [my husband] Paul. He plays all these instruments, and I just love watching him play piano and play guitar with his hands.
MF: What’s your ideal body type for a man—big and muscular or more lean?
NR: I like a really natural looking body, so I’m not into muscles and looking like you just did 1,000 pull-ups and sit-ups and like you only eat lean turkey. That’s not for me. I just like people to look like people, and so I think it’s really attractive when men don’t have perfect bodies. I like a little pooch here or there…obviously I don’t think they should be unhealthy and treat their bodies like crap, but I don’t believe that going to the gym and lifting weights for 10 hours a day is necessary.

MF: In terms of your own body, what do you rely on to stay in shape?
NR: I’m incredibly active because it makes me really happy. I’m really outdoorsy. I water ski, I hike, I take my dogs out. In terms of eating, I am a vegetarian, and I have been for about a year and a half. I haven’t really been vocal about it because I’ve been seeing how it works for me, and I’m finding it to be a really great thing. I do a lot of reading about food and the food industry, so I try to eat locally and go to the farmer’s market.

MF: How was filming for your new movie, Empire State?
NR: I loved Empire State. I had such a good time. Liam Hemsworth is so professional and so awesome, and Emma Roberts is such a great actress. I just loved the character I played. I somehow end up playing these really unrelatable, outrageous characters, and she was definitely that. She’s the most obnoxious, over-the-top, narcissistic, loud lady on the planet. Oh my god, it was a blast. So over-the-top and such a blast.

MF:Twilight has had a huge influence on pop culture. What do you think it is about the whole guy-vampire look that makes girls crazy?
NR: I think there’s something very sexy and seductive about vampires…I mean think back to Gary Oldman, or Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. This is not the first time this has happened. I guess I’m not sure exactly what it is, but maybe it’s the thought of living forever. There’s something very romantic about that idea—just two people being able be together forever. And I don’t know, they consume other people. Maybe there’s a metaphor in there somewhere?
MF: The Twilight Saga is about to end. What’s one thing you’re going to miss most and the one thing you’ll miss least?
NR: I'll miss the weather least—you know, shooting in rainy, cold, muddy weather. And I’ll probably miss my character, the fans, the cast the most.
