Success breakthroughs aim for funny bone

Aim For The Funny Bone

A guy who can make a girl laugh has the edge over less-funny suitors, say Stanford School of Medicine researchers. They scanned girls’ and boys’ brains as they watched funny videos and found that girls’ brains showed more activity in the amygdala and midbrain than guys’. Meaning: Women have evolved to desire humor in a partner. “Humor provides women more information about male ‘mate quality’ than meets the eye,” says Pascal Vrticka, Ph.D. Not the funny type? Focus on listening and asking thoughtful questions. Both are proven turn-ons. No joke.

Success breakthroughs buds help budget

Buds Help You Budget

Pinching pennies? Running with like-minded pals can help keep you on the straight and narrow. In a study at the University of British Columbia, subjects were shown images of objects labeled as theirs, someone else’s, forbidden to them, or forbidden to everyone, then asked to rate their desirability. Result: Forbidden objects seemed less alluring when subjects believed they were denied to the entire group. “There’s strength in numbers,” says the study’s Todd Handy. “It’s harder to go it alone.” Stick with your budget-conscious friends, and you’ll find it easier to stay within your boundaries.

Beer Pressure: Just A Sip Can Make You Drink

And on the subject of resisting temptation: Having only a tiny bit of beer could jeopardize your efforts at drinking in moderation, according to a report in Neuropsy-chopharmacology. Brain scans showed that less than half an ounce of beer caused the release of dopamine in subjects’ brains and upped their desire to drink. So if you want to cut back, it may be wise to go cold turkey on this one.

Success breakthroughs keep her happy

Keep Her Happy and She’ll Keep You Healthy

A good marriage leads to good health, reports a landmark 20-year study at Brigham Young University. In the study, 1,600-plus married subjects were asked to rate the happiness of their marriage as well as the state of their health on a scale of 1 to 4. The upshot: There’s a direct relationship between matrimonial happiness and physical well-being. One way to keep your ducks in a row, spousally speaking: “Research shows that to maintain a happy relationship, there should be at least five pos- itive interactions for every negative one,” says BYU’s Rick Miller, Ph.D.
